Ladder: AI-Powered Career Coach

Ladder is an artificial intelligence powered career search tool designed to help job seekers, providing them with attainable, actionable, and affordable steps to advance their careers and land their next dream job.

Challenge

During the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 50% of Americans wanted to make a career change, but only 1 in 4 quit their jobs following the pandemic. Despite many of these people not having a plan for the next steps, they left their jobs, citing feeling overworked, underpaid, and undervalued. Even employees who remained loyal to their employers didn't see the raises they hoped for, with raises averaging 3.4% in 2022, just over half the inflation rate. Despite only 1 in 3 workers feeling fulfilled and satisfied at their current job, they hold onto these jobs anyway to provide themselves and their families the financial security they need to survive.

Objective

Many who want to advance or change their careers are ready to take the next steps but need to know where to start. They would love to change careers by returning to college and earning a new degree. However, 80% believe earning a college degree is too expensive. 56% said they would sign up for training or education to pursue a lucrative career if it were affordable, accessible, and easy to do on their own time. Ladder aims to support first time job seekers and career changers by providing them with a guided job search experience.

Pain Points

  • One of the most significant challenges job seekers face when making a career change is a need for more experience in their new field. Employers prefer candidates with relevant experience and skills, making it challenging for job seekers to compete with other candidates who have been in the field for years.
  • Career changes can also be financially challenging, especially if the job seeker must return to school or take a pay cut to enter the new field. This financial strain can be a significant hurdle for job seekers struggling to make ends meet - this was especially true during the pandemic when financial and job security was in question.
  • Job seekers sometimes struggle with a lack of direction when changing careers. Without a clear understanding of what they want to do or how to get there, job seekers may feel lost and unsure of how to proceed.
  • Many job seekers fear the unknown and are hesitant to take a risk on a new career. This fear can be paralyzing, causing job seekers to remain in jobs they are unhappy with rather than pursuing a new career.
